Joseph Alley Bryson, 83, died Tuesday at his home at Cathey's Creek after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the church near the residence and interment will be made in the church cemetery. The Rev. C. C. Reece and the Rev. W. H. Nicholson, both of whom have served as pastor of the aged man will be in charge of the rites.
Mr. Bryson was known and respected in all sections of the county, where he has been engaged in farming and cattle raising for many years. Active in the Cathey's Creek Baptist church, the deceased was counted upon by the community as "Uncle Joe," to whom many of the neighborhood turned.
Surviving are five daughters and five sons, as follows: Mrs. Addie Moore, Marietta, S.C.; Mrs. Nolia Phillips, Piedmont, S.C.; Miss May Bryson, Mrs. Branc(h) Tinsley, and Mrs. Tillie Curry, all of Brevard; five sons are Oat, J.M, S.A., J.D., and O.H., all of Brevard.
One sister, Mrs. Baxter Summey of Brevard, 40 grandchldren, and 30 great grandchldlren, also survive.
Some of (friends of) the deceased will act as pall bearers, with the following serving as honorary escort: O. L. Erwin, W. H. Duckworth, Sam Wyatt, T. B. Wood, J. L. Whitmire, D. C. L. Newland, Dr. H. J. Bradley, officials of the county government, W. B. Bailey, L. F. Osteen, J. P. Wilson, J. M. Orr, W. J. Henry, J. B. Jones, J. H. Whitmire, T. W. Whitmire, Carr Owen, Ernest Webb.
Osborne-Simpson Funeral home will have charge of arrangements.
