Shirley was born in Sanford, Maine, Nov. 1, 1924, daughter of Horace and Winifred (Priestley) Mellor. During her late husband's work as city manager, she lived in various towns in New Hampshire and Maine over the years.
She wintered in Daytona Beach, Fla., returning during the summer to spend time with family and friends in Maine and New Hampshire. She enjoyed gardening and picking blueberries. She was known as a wonderful cook. She was involved with bridge groups and golfing with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald E. Chick, who died in 1988 and her sister, Barbara Harrison. Her family includes her daughter, Karen E. Firmin and husband, Alvin, of New Hampton; sons, Donald E. Chick and wife, Patricia, of Rochester, Brian E. Chick of Lebanon, Maine; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Arthur Mellor of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; nieces and nephews.
According to Shirley's wishes there will not be calling hours. A celebration of Shirley's Life will be held at the Weathervane Restaurant in Sanford, Maine, Sunday, March 21 from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Chick Family Cemetery in Lebanon, Maine.
Arrangements are under the care of the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton.
