John Glenn Button was the youngest of the four children of David Glenn Button and Agnes Miller Carson. He served as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps during World War II, earning an Air Medal and five oak leaf clusters. Afterward, attending the University of Pittsburgh on the GI Bill, he met Virginia Louise McCullough. They married in 1949 and had three children.

John died of complications from pneumonia. His death certificate reads "fever of unknown origin." Because he was allergic to penicillin, the pneumonia was treated in the hospital with a new antibiotic that was not well understood. He appeared to recover and returned home. About two weeks later, he suddenly got very ill. It is possible that he had Stevens-Johnson syndrome, although that will never be determined.

We still love him.
