Sarah Ann was the daughter of Baron DeKalb & Caroline Jane (Prichard) Stansell & the wife of Thomas Lafayette Shields.

Sarah and Thomas lived on a farm about eight miles northwest of Peterburg, TX. In October, 1925 Sarah contracted Influenza, which contributed to her death. She died at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, 1924, from Chronic Aortic Stenosis. She had lived 59 years, 7 months, & 13 days.

The following obituary appeared in the Wolfe City Sun.

"Former Wolfe City Lady Passes Away
Mrs. Sallie Shields passed away November 14, 1925, at 1:00
P.M. at her home 18 miles southeast of Plainview, Texas. She had been in failing health since last July. She leaves her husband and six children to mourn her death.

Her children were present at her funeral: Clyde D. of Encino, N.M., Frank M. of Wolfe City, Jesse L. of Plainview, Mary of Plainview, Mrs. Ernest Miller and Mrs. Carrie McDaniel of Plainview.

Sallie A. Shields (nee Stansell) was born April 12, 1866
near Ackworth, Cobb County, Ga, and was married to Thomas
Lafayette Shields at Ackworth, Ga. on Dec. 27, 1883.

They moved to Hunt County , Texas and settled five miles west of Wolfe City, where they resided until Jan., 1909. They moved one and a half mile northwest of Leonard in January, 1909. They then moved to Hale County, Texas in January, 1918, where their present home is located.

Her remains were laid to rest in Petersburg Cemetery to await the coming of her Savior. She left a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death."
