Daughter of the American Revolution – Descendant of Captain Thomas Cobb, Edmund Bugg, Nehemiah Howard, Major John Howard, Abraham Jones and Captain Richard P. White.

She was the daughter of Henry L. Benning and Mary Jones Benning.
On February 6, 1872 as Louisa V. Benning, she married Samuel Spencer at Muscogee County, Georgia.

Mrs. Spencer's Funeral
Services Tomorrow at Tuxedo Park, N.Y. for D.C. Woman
Funeral services for Mrs. Samuel Spencer, aged 71 years, of 2021 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest who died at Tuxedo Park, New York Tuesday, will be held at St. Mary's Church at that place tomorrow afternoon. Following the services at Tuxedo Park the body will be brought to this city where it will be interred at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Spencer was a leader in Washington society and actively engaged in philanthropic work. During her residence of more than 30 years in this city her home was always at the disposal of societies engaged in women's welfare work. She supported many local charitable organizations here.

She was the wife of the late Samuel Spencer, President of the Southern Railroad. She was born in Columbus, Georgia and was a member of the Society of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution the Chevy Chase Club, the Tuxedo Club and the Montgomery Country Club. Mrs. Spencer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James D. Layng of New York and two sons, Henry B. Spencer of this city and Vivian Spencer of New York.
