The Methodist Episcopal Church of Port Byron was incorporated June 10th, 1850, Daniel McQuigg, Daniel T. Mead, John Ferbush, John A. Taylor and Alex. Gutchess being elected the first Trustees.
Daniel was a merchant and in partnership with Henry Giles in 1853, they built and operated a grain storehouse in Port Byron, shipping grain on the Erie Canal.
On one side of the monument for Daniel and Charlotte is the inscription:
In Memory of their children:
Adeline, aged 16 years
Cordelia, aged 20 years
Charles, aged 18 years
Buried at Port Byron
