Susannah was the 10th of 12 children (3rd daughter) born to Lemuel Bartholomew (1727-1801) and his wife Mary Squire (1736-1824).

Susannah married 1st Serano Trowbridge (d. 1796) by whom she had 4 children (3 sons and 1 daughter): Erastus (1790-1830), Caleb (1796-1840), Cyrenus (1797-1880), and Mary. She married for her 2nd husband, Dyer Beckwith (1775-1852) by whom she had 6 children (4 sons and 2 daughters): James, David O. (1809-1893), Susannah B. (1812-1905), Benjamin Reed (1815-1893), Anna, and Joseph H. (1821-1898).
