Zonie is the daughter of Marksey Lafayette and Ardelia McCurdy Todd. She grew up on a farm and had 10 siblings that lived to grow up with her. They are:

John Louis Todd 1887 – 1947
Laura Ann "Cricket" Todd 1888 – 1970
Addie Arminta Todd 1893 – 1970
Elsie Marie Todd 1895 – 1990
Nelsie Ardonia Todd 1899 – 1920
Lonnie Henry Todd 1900 – 1975
Armina "Miney" Todd 1906 – 1994
Anne Arminta "Annie" Todd 1909 – 1927

On November 17, 1930, she married John Gilbert "Gibb" James. They had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls and they are:

My grandmother used to talk about Zonie all the time. She really loved her and of all her sisters-in-law, Zonie was her favorite. I've been told by my cousin that aunt Zonie was a very hard working woman all her life. I think she was dearly loved by all who knew her and don't think a person can want much more from this life than to be able to have that said of them. Zonie was my great aunt.
