SGT Herman John Herman Lindau was born 18 July, 1918 in Duluth Minnesota to Carl August and Emily Sophia (Davidsdotter) Lindau. He was confirmed in Bethany Church, May 17, 1931 and was a member of Bethany Church, Sr. Choir, and Bethany Brotherhood. He graduated Denfield High School in 1935.

On 9 March, 1942, Herman was called to the service of his country with the US Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was subsequently stationed at: Scott Field, Illinois; Fort George Wright, Washington; Rapid City, South Dakota; Walker Army Air Base, Walker, Kansas. Herman achieved the rank of Sergeant by the time he departed for India in March 1944 assigned to the 10th Bomb Maintenance Sqadron, 462nd Bomb Group.

He died 18 June, 1944 from non-battle causes. A memorial service was held for him on 2 July, 1944 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Duluth, Minnesota.
