MIDDLETON JR. Lieutenant Colonel Troy H. Middleton, Jr. - United States Army Retired died Thursday, August 10, 2006, following a brief illness. Born January 25, 1922, in Columbus, GA, Lt. Colonel Middleton graduated from Georgia Military Academy and Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He entered the United States Army in 1943. His military service included World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1973 after 30 years of service. His decorations and awards include: The Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Upon his retirement from active duty, he and his family settled in DeRidder, Louisiana, where he was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served as a Senior Warden, lector, licensed lay minister, and diocesan convention delegate for several terms. He was a member of Beauregard Country Club and served as its president. He was a former member of Rotary International and was a Paul Harris fellow. He and his wife moved to Mobile, Alabama in 2000.
He was an active member of the General Galvez Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Military Officers Association, and Christ Church Cathedral.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. General Troy H. Middleton, U.S. Army Retired and Mrs. Middleton. He is survived by his wife, Martha Middleton; two children, Dr. Troy H. Middleton III (Kathryn) of Mobile, AL, and Emily Middleton Serrano (Jorge) of Baton Rouge, LA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sister, Mrs. Ashton Stewart of Baton Rouge, LA; and a niece and nephew. Visitation will be Friday, August 11 at 10 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with interment in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to: The St. Francis Academy, Inc. (designated to St. Michael's Home, Picayune, MS) 509 East Elm St., Salina, KS 67401. Arrangements by Pine Crest Funerals and Cremations.
