Mathew Bowers married Beulah Pearl Hoyt on July 5, 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Before divorcing, they had three children: Julia Ruth Bowers (1913-1926), Timothy Hoyt Bowers-Irons (1915-2002), and Shirley Bowers (or Irons)[Smurthwaite](1917-1987). His signature on his draft card spells his first name with two ts, but I have also seen his name spelled with only one t (after his grandfather Mathew Sinclair).

He married Iola McLaws on September 11, 1923 in Toole, Utah. They had two children.

Mathew was only 38 years old when he died of a stroke. His niece, Zelma, who was only eight years old at the time, recalled how the family kept vigil over the body in her grandparents' living room, lying in a box that rested on tubs of ice. His eyes covered with sillver coins to keep them shut. Before the funeral the next day, the body was dressed and put in the casket. It was a memory she never forgot.

After Mathew's death, his wife, Iola, re-married Floyd Vorwaller on October 9, 1928.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TUESDAY FOR MATHEW BOWERS

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the stake tabernacle for Mathew Bowers, who died Sunday following a four month's illness. The services were in charge of Bishop Thomas Bailey. The invocation was given by L. A. Bailey, Jr.
The speakers were J. N. C. Pexton, John C. Hall, and Bishop Thomas Bailey, who eulogized the life of the deceased.
The music was furnished by the following: vocal duet, L. P. Anderson and Mrs. T. E. Carter; vocal selection, Mrs. E. M. Greenwood and company; vocal solo, Miss Ellen Cole; vocal duet, A. J. Gowers and Walt Anderson.
The benediction was pronounced by Patriarch L. A. Bailey, and the grave in the Vine Bluff cemetery was dedicated by Bishop Bailey.
The deceased was born in Nephi April 5th, 1899, being 38 years of age on his last birthday. He was the son of A. J. Bowers, Sr. and Mrs. Christena Sinclair Bowers, and has spent practically all of his life in this city. For nine years he was employed in the forest service in the rangers department of the service. He was employed on the state road at the time he was taken sick.
A large number of out-of town people attended the funeral. These were: Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Bowers and family of Lynwood, California; Mrs. J. E. Robertson of Long Beach, California; Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Bowers and family of Garfield, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Bowers of Spanish Fork, Utah; Mrs. James Bowers of Spanish Fork; Mrs. Annie Kimball of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Tobin, Salt Lake; Mrs. Rulon Scott of Pasadena, California; Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Pay of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Elkil Anderson of Fountain Green; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Antofomont [sic] of Eureka; Mrs. Ewell and family of Provo; Robert F. McClaw and Mrs. Mat Bowers of Tooele, Utah.
