Francis H. Gibbons, 77, of 724 Bank, Keokuk, died at 10:11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City. He was born Jan. 2, 1917, in Knox County, Mo., to Patrick Henry and Josephine Weber Gibbons. In 1958, he married Leta Riney in St. Patrick, Mo. She preceded him in death. He served in the United States Army as a tank crewman during World War II. He had lived in Edina, Mo., in his early years. He farmed near Gregory Landing, Mo., and moved to Keokuk in later life. Survivors include: a son, Larry Gibbons of Decatur, Ill.; a daughter, Ramona Stalets of Riverton, Ill.; two grandsons, two sisters, Mary Lindsey of Fairbanks, Ala.; and Ella Mae Fisher of Newark, Mo.; and three brothers, Paul Gibbons of Fairbanks, Ala., Charles Gibbons of Edina, Mo., and Pat Gibbons of Edina, Mo. He also was preceded in death by a sister. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Siekermeier officiating.
Burial, with military rites, will be in Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at DeJon's Funeral Home and the family will meet with friends from 7-9 p.m. A Christian Vigil Service and Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic Church.
