CONCORDIA --- Vernon A. Barleen, 84, formerly of Concordia, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at a Whitewater nursing home.
Mr. Barleen and his wife farmed near Concordia. He earlier drove a gasoline truck for the Concordia Lumber Yard. He also served with the Army 3rd Infantry Division during World War II.
He was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Concordia, the son of Pearl Barleen and Etta M. Dodge.
Mr. Barleen was a member of Concordia Baptist Church.
He married Opal Garlow on Aug. 22, 1944. She died on Aug. 22, 1995.
Survivors include two sisters, Fern Garlow, Concordia, and Jean Bergstrom, Klamath Falls, Ore.; and a brother, Donald Barleen, Klamath Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Concordia Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at Norway. Mr. Barleen will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Concordia Baptist Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
