Obituary: MARTINSVILLE DAILY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Fri., April 7, 1939, p. 2, col. 3 [edited]:

Mrs. M. G. Nelson of Moss Street, has returned from Galax where she attended the funeral last week of her mother, Mrs. James Landreth, who passed away while on her way to University hospital at Charlottesville. With Mrs. Landreth at the time were her son, S. Floyd Landreth, an attorney of Galax, a nurse, and the driver of the ambulance.
Ms. Landreth, who was 74 years of age, was the widow of the Rev. James J. Landreth, who died several years ago.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Curtis Leonard, Mrs. Helen Leonard, Mrs. E. E. Lineberry, Mrs. Bertha Burnett and S. Floyd Landreth of Galax; Mrs. E. J. Lineberry of Max Meadows; Mrs. M. G. Nelson of Martinsville; Mrs. O. B. Winsett of Woodlawn, Mrs. Carl Rickman of Hillsville. Before her marriage Ms. Landreth was Miss Missouri Clementine Phillippi, daughter of the late Andrew J. Phillippi of Wythe County,Va.

The marriage record of James J. Landreth and Missouri C. Phillippi can be found on page 53 on a roll of microfilm labeled "Carroll County, VA Marriages", at the Virginia State Library, Richmond, VA. They were married by Rev. J. S. Bishop. They were both single at the time, he reporting his age as 21 and she as 17, and each was a resident of Carroll county at the time. (info from Peggy Nutt)
