Grandson of Rocco and Antoinette Spana D'Amato.
Grandson of Gerardo and Maria Constanza Toto Rosato.
Gr. Grandson of Severio and Elizabeth Forello Rosato.

Youngest son of Damiano and Elizabeth Rosato D'Amato. He had 4 brothers: Rocco, Gerald, Anthony, Constantine [Cus]D'Amato.

After his mother died, Nick age 3 was cared for by Rocco Luigi and Antonia D'Amato, his aunt and uncle but he missed his brothers and only stayed a short while.

He married Eleanora Helena Bruun on December 11, 1936 in the Borough Hall, Bronx, N.Y. They had no children, but later adopted a nephew, Theodore (Ted) Chiarenza, son of Anthony and Geraldine D'Amato Chiarenza. They loved and cherished him as their own son.

Nick was a Specialist 4, in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed at Bushnell General Hospital, Brigham City, UT and assigned to rehabilitate servicemen who had psychiatric problems. He designed a series of exercises and competitive games for the patients. Most of the patients were either docile or combative and refused to participate in any activities. Nick made everything interesting without forcing participation, and most of the patients joined in weight lifting and sports despite the fact they were missing arms and legs. Officers were amazed at his success and came to observe his methods. Nick's gentle demeanor and genuine interest in each individual's physical problems was all that was necessary to win participation.
He became a Chiropractor after leaving service. He also worked as bricklayer and worked for the City of New York.

Nick was always cheerful and eager to see you. He and Eleanor were child-like in their outlook on life; they radiated joy whenever you saw them. They were very much in love throughout their long marriage, and an example to all. Both were special.
