Private in the Confederate States of America Army of Northern Virginia. Richard fought with the Brunswick Greys, Co.G,21st Regiment, Virginia Infantry. he fought under General Stonewall Jackson. His brother Ransom, was wounded and died near Winchester on 01/15/1862. Richard was seriously wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. His wounds did not heal in time for Richard to rejoin the war effort. He and his wife are buried on the Marshall Browder farm in Dolphin, Brunswick County, Va.
