Birthday annoucement published in Bridgeton, NJ newspaper "West Jersey Pioneer" on 3 January 1884:
"William Meyers, of Quinton, Salem County, was one hundred and one years old on Christmas. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, and is said to be active and healthy."
Death Notice of William Meyers (and others), originally published in Philadelphia, PA newspaper "Public Ledger", republished in Bridgeton, NJ newspaper "Bridgeton Pioneer" on 8 January 1885:
"In the Philadelphia Ledger's record of obituaries for the just ended [1884], are the following instances of longevity in this State:
William Meyers, aged 102 years, died at Quinton, Salem Co., N. J. on July 6th. He was in the war of 1812.
Chloe Lloyd was an inmate of the Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons [HAICP], and her death, which took place Nov. 18th, having occurred suddenly, a coroner's inquest was deemed requisite. As she was said to be 105 years old, the verdict "death from old age" was a not unreasonable one. She was born a slave in New Jersey. After a service of nearly half a century as cook in well-known Philadelphia families, she secured admission to the Home, where she remained active and in good health until her death.
Mary S. Denn died November 9th, at the age of 93. She was born in Salem County, N. J. She was the mother of four children, all of whom survived her.
Mary Hackett died Nov. 8th, aged 98 years. She was born in New Jersey and lived in Salem until about forty years ago, after which she was a resident of Philadelphia. Her death was due to a fall received a few weeks before her death."
