His parents were, Carl "Charles" & Mary Kastendieck Gruschow. His father Carl Grüschow was born in Moltzow (Rambow), Mecklenburg-Schwerin (Germany) and immigrated in 1854 with his family when he was 8 years old. His father grew up in Chicago and moved to B'klyn, NY in 1873.
Robert married Agnes C. Hayden on Nov 07, 1909 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, B'klyn, NY. They had seven children.
He was a Master Plumber and owned his own shop in lower Manhattan. They resided in Brooklyn, NY.

NOTE!

St. Johns Roman Catholic Cemetery has the owner of the plot as Robert A. Grushaw instead of Robert A. Gruschow. A few of his children have the correct spelling of Gruschow, but others are spelled Grushaw and Gruschaw.
Years ago my father said the family were buried at St. John's but when I called them and gave them my grandfathers name they said that he wasn't buried there!!!
I asked them to check some of the children under the correct name and they told me they couldn't check unless I sent them $35 per person!
Several years later I was up in NYC and went by the cemetery to correct this problem with documents and to avoid the family in the future from not being able to find them.
What I got from an office manager type of woman there was total resistance and indifference!!!
That woman there in Nov. 2005, was adamant about not correcting the spelling, even though it was obvious, and first said she would have to speak with the attorneys. She wouldn't even include an A.K.A. with the correct spelling and wouldn't even make a note that his grand-son, me (Ken Gruschow) came in and gave the correct spelling with supporting documents.
She even said to me that she didn't care if I called the Bishop or Pope, that they wouldn't correct, change or add an AKA of the correct spelling of the surname.
I've run into her type before with attorneys and it's a shame that people like this have the custody of records, and who only want to show their imagined authority or self importance and have a sadistic or indifferent nature to turn a simple mistake into a major problem!
Even the Tombstone has the correct spelling of GRUSCHOW.
