Richard E. Rutledge, 68, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, January 19, 1997 at Porter Memorial Hospital. He was born March 24, 1928 in Rankin, Illinois the son of Charles Henry and Myrtle (Hendricks) Rutledge. He attended Rankin Public School until enlisting in the Marine Corps. Was a retired carpenter with Local #1485, a member of American Legion Post #94 and was a U.S. Marine in Korea. Surviving are his wife Bettie J. (Bradney) (Bryarly) Rutledge of Valparaiso; two sisters, Dorothy Rolan of Boswell, Indiana and Jean Deardurff of Kouts; nephew, Richard Lynn Rolan of Boswell, Indiana; in-laws, Doris Clausen of Valparaiso, Richard Bradney of Union Mills and Thomas Cochran of Valparaiso; niece, Becky Bradney of Union Mills; nephews, Rick Cochran of Milwaukee, WI and Tom Cochran of Bethlehem, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 23, 1997 at 1 p.m. at Batholomew Funeral Home, Valparaiso, IN., Pastor Chris Atkins officiating. Burial in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
