Actress. She was an American actress, who appeared in over twenty films during her decade-long career. Born Suzanne Carnahan, the oldest of two children, she was seven years old when her father was killed in an auto accident. Her family then moved to California where she attended school. After studying acting at Max Reinhardt's School of Dramatic Arts, she signed a contract in 1940 with Warner Brothers Pictures but the contract was not renewed in 1942. She had only bit parts with Warner Brothers and changed her name to Susan Peters. Later in 1942, she signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. She had a role in the 1942 drama "Random Harvest," which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 1942 while filming "Trish," she met actor, Richard Quine, who played the role of her husband. The couple were married on November 7, 1943. As a serious actress, she appeared in several films between 1943 to 1944. On New Year's Day, January 1, 1945 while duck hunting, her own shotgun misfired, paralyzing her from the waist down. Her supportive mother died suddenly in December of 1945. In 1946, she and her husband adopted a son. The film "Keep Your Powder Dry" was filmed before her accident but released later in 1945. Cast as a villain in a wheelchair, she returned to acting in "The Sign of the Ram" in 1948; this would be her last film. She and her husband Quine divorced in September of 1948 with their son living with Quine. She accepted roles in radio productions. She appeared on stage in wheelchair roles, "The Glass Menagerie" in 1949 and "The Barretts of Wimpole Street" in 1950. In 1951 she appeared in ten episodes of a 15-minute television daytime soap opera, "Miss Susan," playing the role Susan Martin, a paralyzed lawyer. The next year, her physical and mental health started to decline. She died at age 31. She was buried next to her mother.
