Dr. Jasperson, Is Dead

Dr. Clarence P. Jasperson, 74,
Corpus Christi's first pediatrician,
died at 6:35 a.m. yesterday
in a local hospital following a
long illness.

Dr. Jasperson retired in May
in 1969 after 42 years in private
medical practice here. At the
time nf his retirement, he was
treating the grandchildren of
some of his first patients. He
lived at 3201 Up River Road.
He was born in Topeka, Kan.,
and moved here in 1927.

Dr. Jasperson received his
M.D. in 1925 from Washington
University School at Medicine
and served his internship at Lihue
Hospital in Kauai, Hawaii.

He had been a member of the
Corpus Christi Rotary Club
since 1931, served on the city
school board nine years (most
of the time as vice president)
and held just about every office
n the Nueces County Medical
Society, including president in
1941, In 1940 he was president of
the Texas Pediatric Association.
During the early years of his
practice here, Dr. Jasperson
served as a part time public
health officer for several years
in addition to conducting his pri-
vate practice.

In 1968 he was elected by the
Texas Medical Society to honorary
lifetime memberships in the
local, state and national medical
groups "because of age and
many years of faithful service
to the medical profession."

He was an Army veteran of
World War I and attended Washburn
College in Topeka and the
University of Illinois where he
received his B.A. degree in 1921.

first chairman of the board of

Funeral services will be at 3
p.m. Monday in the First United
Methodist Church wilh Dr. Don
F. Pevey, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Seaside Memo-
rial Park under the direction
Clifford Jackson Funeral Hornc|
on Kostory.

Survivors include his wife,
Betty; a son, Albert G. Jasper-
son of Corpus Christi: four
daughters. Mrs. Mary Beaven of
Hampton, Va.. Mrs. Betty Smith,
of Austin, Mrs. Phyllis Sallee of
Corpus Christi and Mrs. Martha
Tinnell of El Paso; a brother,
Theodore E. Jasperson, Dr. of
Edinburg; a sister, Mrs. Minnie
Upp of Corpus Christi ; and 16
grandchildren.

The family has suggested that
memorials be given to the
American Cancer Society or the
local center for mentally retard-
ed children.
