Survivors are daughters, Mary Isabel Beaven, Betty Christine Smith and her husband, Rev. Jerry Jay Smith, Phyllis Claire Sallee and husband, Bob Sallee, and Martha Ellen Tinnell; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Betty volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II, teaching home health nursing. She and C. P. helped start Oak Park Methodist Church in 1938. In her early married life she was active in the church and PTA. Later she established Candlelight Catering where she specialized in wedding cakes, making confection roses and other flowers, petal by petal, that are still keepsakes for many Corpus Christi area brides. Beef tenders and angel biscuits are long remembered as her party trademarks. The Jaspersons returned to First United Methodist Church when the children were grown, where she continued to serve as a member of United Methodist Women and was a longtime Sunday school teacher of the Conley-Wesley class. Betty was an avid gardener up until she was 98 years old. The beautiful azaleas and daylilies were her pride and joy. She moved to Trinity Towers Holmgreen Center when she was 99 where she had excellent care. Very special thanks go to the staff at Holmgreen, Vista Care, and to her dear companion, Terry Sanchez. She will be missed by those she loved and who loved her.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Corpus Christi's First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at First United Methodist Church on Shoreline.
