Edgar Benjamin Cummings was born on 30 Nov 1909 the seventh of eleven children born to William Harvey and Cload Owna (Whitebread) Cummings. He moved to Colorado with his family at an early age.

On 28 May 1938 he married Ina Maude Hibbitts. To this union was born five children: Roger, Richard, Patricia, William and Edward.
