Carl "Jum" Allison, 81, of Carmichaels, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Uniontown Hospital.

He was born June 5, 1928, in Carmichaels, a son of the late P.W. and Isabel Rush Allison.

Mr. Allison was a 1946 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in Carmichaels all of his life.

After basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., he went to heavy equipment mechanic school in Fort Belvoir, Va., and spent 17 months in Korea with the 571st Combat Construction Company. After his military service, Mr. Allison worked for Union Supply Co. in Carmichaels and later became a partner with Allison and Alderson Esso Station in Carmichaels. In October 1959, he bought the business and operated it first as Allison's Esso, then as Allison's Exxon, until his retirement.

Mr. Allison was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels and a deacon and trustee of the former Glades Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels.

He became a member of Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company in August 1947 and served as chief from June 1971 until 1977 and then again in 1980. In addition, Mr. Allison served the fire company as engineer, captain, second assistant chief, first assistant chief and trustee. He also was a bingo committee member until his recent illness. In addition, he was a member and past president of Greene County Firemen's Association, a member of Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association and Southwestern Pennsylvania Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association. Mr. Allison was one of the few Greene County firemen in the exclusive Old Timers Association. He worked for the former Greene County Fire School, beginning in 1954. He headed the school in 1971 and 1972.

Since 1973, Mr. Allison was a member of Low Hatters Association, a member of Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce and worked in many capacities in the operation of King Coal Association. He was a member of Valley Lodge No. 459, F&AM, Masontown, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh and Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Mr. Allison also was a member of Caravan 9 in Uniontown, Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, both of Carmichaels.

On June 6, 1949, he married Wilma F. Blaker, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Todd A. Allison and wife Lisa of Carmichaels; a daughter, Lisa Ann Allison of Carmichaels; four grandchildren, Isaac Lilley, Carrie Cuff and husband, Sean, Andrew Allison and Katlyn Allison; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna McCann of Alexandria, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Stanley Allison; and an infant brother and sister.

Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, Carmichaels. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, in Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels, with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park. Valley Lodge 459 F& AM will conduct Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the building fund of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
