Elizabeth Brooks daughter of the second Governor of KY, James Garrard. Her husband, James Allen Brooks died in 1833 and is interred in the same cemetery as Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Mountjoy Garrard, born: March 6, 1783, in Stafford County, VA and died in Houston, TX in June, 1843. She was the daughter of the second governor of Kentucky, James Garrard and his wife Elizabeth Mountjoy Garrard. History notes that she had the first piano in KY; which was constructed by Mr. John Goodman of Frankfort, KY in his home at the corner of Washington and Main Streets in 1801. She married James Allen Brooks (a native of Pennsylvania) on May 9, 1810. Soon thereafter, Mr. & Mrs. Brooks moved to New Orleans, where he participated in the battle of New Orleans. At a young age, Mr. Brooks had been involved in mercantile pursuits and moved to Bordeaux, France where he witnessed many events now famous in world history, while France was under the control of Napoleon. James and Mrs. Brooks moved to Lexington, KY where he died of cholera in 1833. Elizabeth was the mother of Eliza Jane Brooks Van de Graffe (b; July 31, 1811 in New Orleans), Celeste Ophelia Brooks Campbell (b: 1813 in Maryland), James Brooks (b; Owingsville, KY in 1815 and died unmarried, 1840 in Mississippi), Marguerite Brooks Coghill Hageman Bush (b; 1817 in Lexington, KY) and Maria Dudley Brooks Allen (b: Lexington, KY in 1819).
