"Duncan McDuffie, brother of old Alexander, married Mary Carmichael...; they had four sons, viz: Archie B., who never married, was a prominent commission merchant in Wilmington NC, and is now dead. Neil C. was Sheriff of the county before the war, and without disparaging other Sheriff's, will say he was one of the best Sheriff's Marion has ever had. Duncan D., the third son married Miss Penelope Ford. D. D. served throughout the war and was a lieutenant in the 10th SC regiment. George Alexander, another son of Duncan, moved to Horry County, married a Miss Alford there, but moved back to the old homestead and died there. Nancy, the only daughter of Duncan, married Isham H. Watson. She died of small pox, 16th January, 1864. - page 319, A History of Marion County
