Annie was the 7th of 9 children born to David and Hessie McKay Allan in Condorrat, Scotland. She married Robert Mulgrew and had 5 children: Robert, David, Thomas, Hessie and Ida. In 1928 she and her children came to the United States from Scotland and moved to Redondo Beach, CA. Her husband Robert had come in 1927 and was a pipe fitter in the oil fields of So CA. near Redondo Beach.

Redondo Beach was where Annie's parents and all of her 8 siblings and their families were living.
