Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the US Marine Corps at New York. He served as a Corporal. His citation reads "For leaping overboard from the US Flagship Lancaster, at Villefranche, France 25 December 1881, and rescuing from drowning Robert Blizzard, ordinary seaman, a prisoner, who had jumped overboard." He enlisted in the Marines on November of 1880 in Brooklyn, New York and was discharged April 20, 1895.
