John was the husband of Clarissa E. (Ormsby) Morrison (1849-1930) and son of William P. Morrison and Suzannah (Tullis) Morrison. he was the father of at least five children including: Elmer, Thomas, Sidney, John and Clarence Morrison. John was a Veteran of the Union Army in the Civil War. He enlisted on April 7, 1862 in Co. G, 3rd Missouri State Militia Cavalry which became Co. K, 7th Missouri State Militia Cavalry. He was transferred to Co. H, 13th Missouri Cavalry Volunteers on September 1, 1864 and was mustered out on May 12, 1866.
