Lois was born near Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Florence Docken, she grew up on the family farm until their move to Eagle Rock, CA, in 1943. A small town girl at heart, she quickly embraced the warm weather and beautiful beaches. After her graduation she worked for Occidental Life Insurance and also The University of California's Atomic Energy Commission, until meeting her husband of 52 years, Mel. They moved to Sacramento with their baby son Curtis and soon had their daughter Katina. She always said the hardest and most important job you can ever do is raising children. She took that job seriously and did it with love, humor, and a close eye. She was always there to greet her kids after school to see how their days went: they are her legacy. She was adored by her two grandchildren, Lexi and Cooper. In her eyes they could do no wrong. Always engaged, she would be on the floor playing games and reading to them. She and Cooper played the game "Staying Alive" for hours and, like every good grandma, she made sure he always won a few games. It was not unusual to see Lois walking down the hall with pig tails, curlers and makeup done in only a way a 10 year old granddaughter could do. She loved basketball, golf and playing slot machines. She was known to be quite lucky and it wasn't unusual for her to make a phone call late at night to the kids about one of her jackpots. It was not a secret that she wasn't a fan of cooking. As her kids got older she and Mel ate out quite frequently. Her motto was "why cook in a town with so many restaurants". She cherished her time talking on the phone with her sisters, Dorothy and Phyllis. You knew that if you called while she was on the phone with one of them, not to call back for several hours. Lois loved to dance. Whenever she heard music, be it one of the oldies or something more current, it brought out her playful side and her beautiful smile. There is no question that she and Mel are dancing on streets of gold in heaven. She passed away peacefully, with grace and amazing courage, with her children by her side. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Mel Rapton, parents Harry and Florence Docken, her brothers Gordon and Gerald Docken. She is survived by her son Curtis, daughter-in-law Rossana Rapton, grandson Cooper; her daughter Katina Rapton and granddaughter Lexi; sisters Dorothy Salisbury and Phyllis Williams, several nieces, nephews, and their children. Lois was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
