Millard Gordie Fidler was born on March 31, 1894, in Linn, West Virginia. He was the oldest of four sons born to Minor L. and Iva V. Wiant Fidler. In 1918, Millard enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 80th "Blue Ridge" Division, 314th Field Artillery, Battery E during World War I.

Millard married Madge Hazel Woofter on May 24, 1921, at the United Brethren Church in Weston, West Virginia. Madge and Millard moved to Fairmont, West Virginia, shortly after they were married. They had a daughter, Mary Jeane Fidler, born on November 18, 1923, and two sons, Robert Gordon Fidler, on January 9, 1934, and Joseph Neil Fidler, on December 25, 1935.

In 1939, the Fidler family moved into the house built by Millard at the corner of Bell Run Road and Beverly Hills in Fairmont. Millard obtained his machinist degree with West Virginia University and worked at Westinghouse as a Master Machinist for many years retiring in 1959.

Millard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars serving as Commander of the Fairmont Post in the mid 50's. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Millard passed away on April 12, 1971, at the Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.

Madge and Millard had three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Gravesite Details

Millard and Madge's gravesite is under perpetual care by Woodlawn Cemetery. Repairs were made to the bottom of the gravestone recently.
