John Lee Allen was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, but moved to Butler County Pennsylvania with his family in the early 1830s. He married Elizabeth Kirk, daughter of Arthur and Marion Smith Kirk, in 1850. They had nine children together. They moved to Missouri in about 1870, then back to Pennsylvania, and then finally to Kansas.

Topeka State Journal, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1912, page 6:

John Allen, aged 87 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.S. Havekott, at Berryton last night. He was the father of Dr. G.V. Allen and Arthur E. Allen of Topeka. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.


The Topeka Daily Capital, Friday, Dec. 13, 1912, page 6:

The funeral of John Allen, who died Monday, will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.S. Havekott, at Berryton Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Lynn Creek Cemetery.

John Lee Allen was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, but moved to Butler County Pennsylvania with his family in the early 1830s.
