Cora was the daughter of Corydon E Cooley, noted Indian scout and pioneer settler of the White Mountains of Arizona and his wife Molly. Charles and Cora were married on November 15, 1903 in Navajo County, Arizona. They had 3 children, Charles, Jr., Emily, and John Elroy Pettis.

She apparently died as a result of a disease of the pancreas after a two week stay in the hospital.
