Richard Lyle Hinderaker was born on July 29, 1924 on a farm northwest of Radcliffe, Iowa. He was one of four children born to Amos and Minnie (Willig) Hinderaker. Richard was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church rural Radcliffe. He received his education by attending rural schools northwest of Radcliffe and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Enterprise during World War II. He married Joyce Elaine Jansen on October 7, 1947 at Bethany Lutheran Church northwest of Radcliffe. They started their home five miles northwest of Radcliffe on the same farm where Richard and his father (Amos) were born. He was involved with his two sons and his brother-in-law, Paul Barkema, in a farming operation that fed turkeys, cattle and hogs. Rich retired from farming in 1985. On August 10, 2003 Rich was married to Florence (Duncan) Vold in the Saint Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Rich served on numerous boards including: Farm Bureau, Iowa Turkey Federation, Farm Service and Kiwanis. He was very involved with his church, serving as a church deacon and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed golfing and spending the winters in Arizona. Richard Lyle Hinderaker, age 85, passed away on Monday; June 14, 2010 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard; Hardin County, Iowa. Those that mourn his passing are: His wife: Florence of Story City, Iowa. His one daughter: Karen (Brad) Engelson of Byron, Illinois. His two sons: Randy (Carol) Hinderaker and David (Linda) Hinderaker all of Radcliffe, Iowa. His one step-son: Stuart Vold of Mason City, Iowa. His eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. His two sisters: Lorraine (Jay) Paxton of Jewell, Iowa and Joyce (Jim) Hanson of Ames, Iowa. Also other relatives and a host of friends. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Joyce and his daughter: Vicki who died in infancy and his sister: Dorothy. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday; June 17, 2010 at the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at: 1:30 p.m. on Friday; June 18, 2010 at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe, Iowa. Interment will be at the Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe, Iowa.
