He came to Cattaraugus County in 1818 as a teamster, son of John Prosser, who went to Chautauqua County. Daniel arrived at Perrysburg, New York, from Edmeston, Otsego County, along with his parents. He had 75 cents in his pocket. In March of 1818, he acquired 100 acres, and began clearing the site for a farm. Daniel's wedding to Celis had to be postponed because his one good shirt, hung out to dry, was chewed -up by one of his cows. Daniel made his wedding shoes himself from leather tanned in a hollow log by his neighbor, Almon Johnson.
Cause of death: fracture of femur within the capsular ligaments, intation & prostration growing out of the fracture & confusement - was ill 14 days (Dr. C. C. Johnson)
