Owen E. Holt, a son of John R. and Sarah Knight Holt, and a lifelong resident of Russell County, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, in Indianapolis, following a long illness. He and Mrs. Holt had been with his children up there for about a year. Mr. Holt was 77 years of age. He was active in Republican circles in Russell County, making a successful race for Jailer at one time, and was serving as City Judge of Jamestown when illness caused his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Holt of Jamestown, and by five sons and five daughters: Alfred Holt of Cleveland, Owen Holt, Jr., of Minooka, Ill., Alton Holt, Arvis Holt, Marshall Holt, Mrs. Beulah Heidelman, Mrs. Beatrice Haynes, and Mrs. Wanda Miner, all of Indianapolis, Mrs. Tina Cooper of Russell Springs, and Mrs. Jo Nell Roy of Saudi Arabia.

He also leaves 17 grandchildren, as well as three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Lona Carnes, Mrs. Minnie Lee Butler, and Mrs. Edith Brooks, all of Russell Springs, Vernon Holt of Indianapolis, and Marcus R. Holt of Jamestown. There are a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Jamestown Christian Church, where he had his membership, and were conducted by Bro. Paul Patton on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 17. Pallbearers were Ray Coe, Voliver Grider, Shy Ramsey, Edd Blankenship, Kermit Mann, and Rufus Shearer. Burial was in the Lawless Cemetery, with H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in charge of arrangements.
