REXBURG - Julina Smith Hart, 91, of Rexburg, died May 10, 1997, at her home.
She was born February 5, 1906, in Salt Lake City to Joseph Fielding and Louie Emyla Shurtliff Smith. There she was raised and graduated from LDS High School. After one year at the University of Utah, she attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's and master's degree. She attended the University of Oregon and was a librarian at BYU where she met her husband.
On June 8, 1938, she married Eldon Charles Hart in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved to Urbana, Illinois. where he attended the University of Illinois and she was a librarian. In 1940, they moved to Rexburg where her husband began his 40 years as a teacher and administrator with Ricks College. She was a teacher and librarian in Madison, Rigby and West Jefferson High Schools and JW Eater Jr. High in Rantoul, Illinois. She was a secretary and supporter of her husband in his business for the 59 years of marriage.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served willingly where ever she was called.
Survivors include her husband; children, Julina (husband, Paul) Hokanson of Chesterfield, Missouri, Millie (husband, Rich) Andrus and Lewis W. (wife, Myrna) Hart both of Rexburg; a sister, Amelia S. McConkie of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Douglas A. Smith and Milton E. Smith both of Salt Lake City; 32 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters, a son and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center, 315 East 2nd North, with Bishop Mack Shirley of the Rexburg 8th Ward officiating. Family will meet with friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
