ORLAND LOSES OLD CITIZEN
ISAAC LONG, RESIDENT OF ORLAND FOR THIRTY-FIVE YEARS, CALLED
Isaac Aaron Long died at his home in this city on Saturday, July 30, at the age of fifty-nine years, nine months and nineteen days, the cause of his demise being apoplexy.
Mr. Long, with his two sons and son-in-law, had gone to the mountains on Friday, with the intention of spending a few days hunting and camping. Shortly after striking the mountains he was taken ill and his condition shortly became so grave that a physician was dispatched for. Dr. Brown drove to the camp and brought the patient and the rest of the party back to town with him. He gave Mr. Long what relief was possible and left him seemingly somewhat relieved. It was only a short time later however that the final stroke came, and he passed away.
Mr. Long was one of the old residents of this vicinity. He was born in Wisconsin on October 11, 1861. While still a mere boy he came to California, and for the past thirty-five years he has called Orland his home. Mrs. Long passed away some fifteen years ago. Five children are left to mourn the loss of a father; Henry Long of this place, Marjorie now Mrs. Alfred Johnson, also of Orland; Samuel A. Long, whose home is in Oakland, and Alameda [sic] and Eben Long, who make their home at this place. Mr. Long also leaves a brother, Jacob Long, at Butte City, and several brothers and sisters in Nebraska.
The funeral will be held this, Tuesday, afternoon, from the undertaking parlors of Hicks & Chaney. The services will be conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. H. E. McWilliams. The remains will be laid at rest in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
Mr. Long was one of the well respected citizens of Orland, and the surviving members of his family will receive the sincere sympathy of all who know them. – Transcribed by E.
