M.D. Meriwether, Pioneer Resident, Passed Away Monday


Mr. M. D. Meriwether, a resident of this county for fifty years, passed away Monday, September 30th at the home of Mrs. John Lockhart. Mr. Meriwether had been ill for several weeks, complications setting in which brought about his death.

Milton Donnelson Meriwether was born March 28th, 1868 at Nashville, Tennessee, being in his 73rd year at the time of his death. When a young man Mr. Meriwether came to Colorado and about fifty years ago located in this county. He was married to Miss Josephine Wallace on his birthday, March 28, 1909, and to this union were born nine children, eight of whom survive their father; Sarah Marie passed away in 1918 and Mrs. Meriwether passed away May 31st 1933 in Pasadena, California. The surviving children are: Mrs. Etta Long, Lloyd, Colorado; Mrs. Ada Heaton, Lebanon, Colorado; George Meriwether, Burbank, California; Mrs. Ruth Taylor, Lance Creek, Wyoming; Mrs. Dorothy Clary, Meeker; Jim and Raymond Meriwether, Meeker; and Miss Beulah Meriwether, Lebanon.

During most of Mr. Meriwether's residence in this county he worked at agricultural and stock raising. He homesteaded on West Miller creek where the family made their home for a number of years. Mr. Meriwether also acted as ditch rider for the Miller creek ditch for a number of years. In recent years the family have lived in town and for the past few years Mr. Meriwether has been in poor health. The deceased was well known in town and to old timers thruout the county. He was of pleasant disposition and ever ready to be of service to a friend.

Funeral service were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. Williams officiating.
