John C. Moxley, 63, assistant postmaster of Atchison, died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning at the Atchison hospital where he had been a patient since April 9. Death was due to a heart condition. He was in the postal service here 38 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. Robert W. Fricke, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon cemetery.

The body will be in state at the church for an hour prior to the services.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock at the Sawin & Dyer funeral home.

A son of William G. Moxley and Sarah Hudson Moxley, John Moxley was born Nov. 29, 1900, at Nortonville. He was reared on the family farm and was a graduate of the Nortonville High school.

Mr. Moxley entered the postal service at the Atchison post office Aug. 16, 1924, as a substitute clerk. He became a regular clerk in September, 1927, and was promoted to clerk in charge in February, 1952. In March, 1955, he was promoted to assistant postmaster.

Aug. 16, 1925, he married Miss Hulda S. Niemann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Niemann of Nortonville. The home is at 941 Laramie street.

Mr. Moxley was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and had served in many of the offices of the church. He was a member of the National Association of Postal Supervisors.

Besides his wife of the home he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Gerald P. (Mary Jo) Rahatz, Shawnee, Miss.; a son, John David Moxley, Oakland, Calif., a certified public accountant; three sisters, Mrs. Ronald Varner, Nortonville, Mrs. Kathryn Cook, Houston, Tex., and Miss Elizabeth Moxley, Reno, Nev.; two brothers, Donald Moxley, Nortonville, and W. G. Moxley, Houston, Tex.; and two grandchildren, John Winston Moxley and Martha Moxley.

Mr. Moxley was dedicated to his work and was known for his integrity, reliabilty and dependability. His illness, which began with an attack of pneumonia, was the first he had ever suffered.
