The victim, Floyd A. Courtney, 58, 216 Ball Ave., was dead on arrival at Richmond Memorial Hospital, Olney, His car collided with a semi-trailer driven by Norman L. Maikranz, Louisville, Ky. State police reported the Courtney car was en route east at the time of the crash.
According to the truck driver, Courtney apparently lost control of his auto. He said it swerved off the highway twice before the collision occurred. The Muncie man was hurled from the car and landed approximately 60 feet from the point of impact, reports revealed.
Maikranz was trapped in the cab of the semi until Civil Defense workers arrived at the scene. He was not injured, according to reports.
Courtney lived with his sister, Mrs. Ralph M. Nelson, at the Muncie, address. He moved to Muncie from New York in May, 1962.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Nettie Alexander,and stepfather, Clarence, both of Drayton Plains, Mich.; a son, James A. Courtney, New York City; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Williamson, Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, O. Roy Courtney, Pontiac, Mich., Orville A. Courtney, Garden City, Mich., and Kenneth L. Courtney, Sr., Fort Wayne; a stepbrother, Fred Alexander, Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Ralph M. Newson, Muncie; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at Elm Ridge Cemetery. The funeral cortege will leave Piepho Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Muncie Lodge 433, F&AM, will be in charge of services. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday.
