***** I wish I could have met you Magoo, I grew up hearing stories about you, you must have left a great impression on my mother (your cousin). It seems so unfair to me for you to have died so young, especially after losing both your parents on the same day. Thank you for your service to this country, you paid the ultimate price. Your memory lives on in the hearts of everyone who knew you... and some who didn't.

***** I looked at my old memory book from when I was a girl and happened upon your letters from Vietnam. I read how you hated it there, the mud, the heat, and your fear of not coming home. I also read your plans for the future, how you were going to come home, get a job, and buy a car. I could hear the loneliness in your words when you urged everyone to write letters to you in Vietnam. All of your friends cried when we heard the news of your passing. I'll always remember you as that young, long-haired boy from California that moved into our small community. You were cool wearing your bell bottom pants and listening to all kinds of hip music. Charles, you'll always be dear to my heart, and even though your friends here on earth have aged , you'll always stay young, You made us some great memories.

108 Names to Be Added to Viet Memorial
March 12, 1986

When the more than 50,000 names were gathered for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial four years ago, only those who were killed in the war zone--North and South Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and the coastal waters of these countries--were listed by the Department of Defense as officially killed in combat.

The Defense Department agreed to change its definition of combat casualty for purposes of the memorial, and this spring 108 names will be added to the granite walls. Ninety-five are servicemen killed in plane crashes on combat missions, and 13 are soldiers who died years later of wounds sustained in the war.

Other servicemen who died during the Vietnam War outside the war zone while on or in support of direct combat missions include:

Servicemen who died later of wounds received in Vietnam.

Ronnie D. Beets, Odessa, Tex.; Joseph Anthony Carinci, Derby, Conn.; Charles K. Fink, Bedford, Va.; Christopher Loring Maher, Montgomery, Ala.; Michael Kelly McGuire, Buffalo, N.Y.; Charles Albert Philhower, Morristown, N.J.; Joel B. Simpson, Battle Creek, Mich.; James Edward Snock, Philadelphia, Pa.; Richard Edward Stephan, Mercer, N.J.; Joshua B.
