Wade Hampton Haislip

Death: Dec. 23, 1971

US Army General. He graduated form the US Military Academy in 1912 and served in World War I on the General Staff of the V Corps in the occupation of Germany. After the war, he was a West Point instructor and Assistant Executive in the Office of Assistant Secretary of War, 1921 to 1936. From 1938 to 1941, he served as Major General Assistant Chief of Staff, of the War Department General Staff. In World War II, he organized the 8th Infantry Division and served as commander, 1942 to 1943. He next took command of the XV Corps and served in Normandy, France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. He was promoted Lieutenant General commander of the 7th US Army in 1944 and served in post until August, 1945. Following the war he was on the Secretary of War's Personnel Board, September 1945 to April 1946 and a senior member of the Chief of Staff's Advisory Group, 1946 to 1948. In 1949, he was appointed Vice Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff for administration. He retired a full four star General in 1951. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
