Roy E. Holt, 91 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at his home.
Roy was born in Dykes, Kentucky on March 10th, 1919, son of the late James M. Holt and Merta Lee Farmer Holt. He retired from the position as superintendent of the Pulaski County School System. Roy was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member and past deacon of the Rock Lick Baptist Church. He enjoyed University of Kentucky sports, Basketball, and singing.
Roy was survived by his loving wife, Alma Eliza Waddle Holt, whom he married on October 16th, 1943 in Somerset, Kentucky; three sons, Jack Eldon (and Vanita) Holt, John R. (and Kathy) Holt, and David (and Angie) Holt; one daughter, Jane (and Hershel) Whitis; one brother, Russell Holt; one sister, Katherine Wesley; ten grandchildren, Chris Tomlinson, Lisa (and Tom) Kay, Gina Whitis, Dr. Jaclyn (and Jasper) Van Nes, Robyn (and Nick) Doiron, Christopher, Roy T., and Stephanie Holt, Rachel and Daniel Holt; seven great-grandchildren, Holly, Maria, and Julia Kay, Sebastian van Nes, Liam, Anna, and Emma Doiron; his dedicated caregivers, Sherry Harrison and Linda Bowers; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Holt and Mertie Holt; two brothers, Delvin Holt and Varna Holt; and one sister, Edna Calhoun.
Visitations were held on Wednesday, August 4th, 2010 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 5th, 2010 in the Chapel of the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Pollard officiating.
Burial followed in the Somerset City Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky. The American Legion Post No#38 Honor Guard conducted full military honors for Roy.
