Donald K. Davis, 61, of Charleston, S.C., died Sunday, July 13, 1997, from complications involving cancer of the esophagus. He was born in Tazewell, Va. on January 20, 1936. He was the son of David and Pearl Davis. He entered the Air Force in 1954 and retired as a M/SGT in 1977, his last assignment being Charleston AFB, S.C. While in the military he was stationed at Gunter AFB, Ala.; Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Ala., Tripoli, Libya. His family then accompanied him to Donaldson AFB, Greenville, SC, Tachikawa, Japan, Vietnam (family at Travis AFB, California), Charleston AFB, S.C., Cigli AB, Iymir Turkey, Iraklim A.S., Crete, Greece, Craig AB, Selma, Ala., Clark AB, Philippines, and finally at Charleston AFB, where he and his wife settled. He had been a choir member, lay reader, and seniors group member of the Charleston AFB Chapel since 1975. He was well loved. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary M. Davis; sons, Donald S. Davis of Peoria, Ariz., K. Douglas Davis of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughters, Jennifer Benninghoff of Atlanta, Ga. and Margaret McDonald of Shreveport, La.; and eight grandchildren; brothers, Wesley Davis of Roanoke, Va., Charles Davis of Blacksburg, Va., and John Davis of Christiansburg, Va.; sister, Dorothy Thornhill of Blacksburg, Va. Funeral services will be at Charleston Air Force Base Chapel Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to the Mark Doan Cancer Contribution Account, c/o NationsBank, 600 N. Main Street, Summerville, SC.
