Lieutenant, Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment).

Died of wounds aged 27 years.

Lieutenant William Sharpe Baillie was a valued officer with The Canadian Grenadier Guards who served with the 87th Battalion (Canadian Grenadier Guards) CEF during WW1 and tragically was accidentally killed when struck by an ammunition train while walking back to barracks drunk.

Pre 1915 – Served with 58th Regiment (Westmount Rifles) as Lieutenant
1915 – 12 April – Attested with 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles (5-CMR) as Private (Svc# 388)
1915 – 19 June – Purchased a Commission (Lieutenant) with 117th Battalion (Eastern Townships)
1916 – 14 August – embarked for overseas - UK aboard the HMS / SS Empress of Britain
1916 – 2 December – Posted to 87th Battalion (Canadian Grenadier Guards) as Lieutenant (1 year 6 months 10 days)
1917 – 8 June – Wounded in Action and diagnosed with Dermatitis
1918 – 13 May – Died of Accidental Wounds – Was hit by an ammunition train while drunk and suffered fractured skull, amputated toes both feet, traumatic shock, and contracted pneumonia.
