Bessie Marie Cornwell, 81, of Bellefontaine and formerly of DeGraff, died at 3:20 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
She was born in Cincinnati, on July 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Jim and Alta Rayles Miller.

On January 16, 1947, she married Harry Glenn Cornwell in Hillsboro and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Louise Kirk; a brother, Charles; and four sisters, Ann, Pearl, Margaret and Mary.

Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Ann (Gary) Proffitt of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren, Danny Proffitt and Cody Proffitt both of Bellefontaine; Christina Chavez and Walter Kirk, Jr. both of Las Vegas, Nevada; and four great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, she was a member of VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries in Bellefontaine when her husband was living. She also enjoyed animals and walking.

Pastor Floyd Lundy will conduct a graveside service on July 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff. Arrangements are being handled by Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff.
