He came to California in 1907 and was 18 years old when enlisting in the Marine Corps May 1, 1917. He was sent to Mare Island for three months training and then to Quantico, Virginia where he finished his training. He left for France on January 19th and arrived in France February 8, 1918. He was sent right to the front. He was in the 79th Company, 6th Regiment, Second Battalion Marine Corps, U.S.A.”
