(special thanks to charlott jones #47003358 for the following info). Ann Timothy Cleland was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the daughter of John C. Cleland and Maria Holland. Ann's father was a wealthy sugar planter in Jamaica. However, for reasons unknown the family left there abruptly and came back to American shores.
She was married twice. First at the age of 15 she married Albion Parriw Howe who later became a Brig. General in the Union Army. He was military man and she followed along with him to the Mexican Wars. There she converted to the Catholic faith. Why she left Howe is not known, but eventually she escaped through the Confederate lines getting to Florida. She may have had children by Howe. It was then in Florida that she married Aristides Doggett.
(special thanks to jaeren #47669688 for the following info) I am researching this family and found findagrave's data for Albion Parris Howe. It turns out that Albion Parris Howe did not marry Ann Timothy Cleland (later Doggett).
Albion Parris Howe married Elizabeth Law Mehaffrey on 17 February 1859 in New York City, New York, USA; Elizabeth Law Mehaffrey born 03 June 1838 in Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA- died c. 1921 in Massachusetts, USA); and they had: Elizabeth Mehaffrey Howe Howe (1860 VA- c. 1942), Katherine Macpherson Howe (1865 in Washington, DC -1935 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA; source: Massachusetts Death Index); Albion Parris Howe (1867-1867); William DeLancey Howe (1869 MD-1954 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA), Leonora Spring Howe Booth (1871 MD-1958 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA) and Marshall Mehaffrey Howe (1876 KY-after 1940).
Ann Timothy Cleland Howe Doggett (1822-1892) married Albion's brother, Marshall Spring Howe (1804 ME-1878 KY), and they had: Albion Howe (1841 FL-1873 CA; Burial: Gillems Camp Cemetery , Modoc County, California, USA), Lucien Howe (1848 ME-1928 MA) and William Henry Young Howe (1850 NM-); she married, second, Aristides H. Doggett (1832-1890) and they had John Locke Doggett (1868-1937); source: 1850 US Census and Massachusetts 1893 marriage record of Lucien Howe and Elizabeth M. Howe; see following.
In 1850 US Census, Marshall Howe (1805 ME) lived with his wife, A.T. Howe (1826 Jamaica WI; I wonder if she was born in Jamaica Plains, Massachusetts?) and their chldren, Albion Howe, Lucien and Wm. Henry Young (seven month old), in Bernalillo, New Mexico Territory; Marshall is a Major in the US Army; and Julia M. Cleland (1830 SC).
In the following, Lucien Howe, son of Marshall S. Howe and Anne Cleland, marries his cousin, Elizabeth M. Howe, daughter of Albion P. Howe and Elizabeth L. Mehaffrey: Massachusetts Marriage Records, 1840-1915; Lucien Howe; born c. 1849 in Maine; marriage date: 16 August 1893 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; age at marriage c. 44; father: Marshall S.
