He arrived in Detroit about 1825 and worked as a brick maker. He married Deiadamia Thomas on Nov. 30, 1829. In 1833 he was contracted by the War Department to make bricks for the Detroit Arsenal. He served as justice of the peace 1835-1843; in 1836 elected to be one of the delegates of Wayne County; served in the Michigan House of Representatives 1838, 1841, 1864; and Michigan State Senate 1848 and 1850. In 1849 he was appointed chairman of the Committee on Agriculture. Locally he served as supervisor of the township of Dearborn and Superintendent of Wayne County Poor.
